Forgetting about your Target Audience

It is easy to assume that the majority of internet browsing today is carried out on mobile devices. But this is a blanket assumption and fails to surmise as to how the perceived minority access the internet. Therefore do not forget that your target audience may include a cohort in this minority who access the internet via alternative methods such as on desktop devices or even who may be recommended to visit your website/online channels through print media and word of mouth.

Losing Sight of Goals

While the sole purpose of your business may be to generate revenue and make money, do not confuse this as a worthwhile goal. Your business exists in the first place to make money, but it can only do so by reaching certain goals and targets. For example if you run a marketing campaign for a month and state that you would like to generate X amount of revenue; it would be worthwhile to also set a goal of gaining twenty new newsletter subscribers in the same month. In this way you justify the businesses existence and also meet a goal which will help it to grow and continue to exist.

Only Rewarding New Customers

You may have experienced this yourself with TV and/or mobile phone packages for example. You see that your provider is running a great deal that you would like to avail of but upon further enquiring are told that this offer is available to new customers online. This can also happen online when you decide to offer people a 10% discount “off their first order” or only give out promo codes to those who “create a new account.” A constant focusing on new and potential customers can leave your current customers in the dark and test their loyalty to your business and your brand.

Using Content that Lacks Effort

While good quality content will keep your website and online presence in good standing and assist with your SEO; content of contrasting quality (i.e. that lacks effort) will only sabotage your efforts. Blog posts, vlogs and website pages etc. that are only made for the sake of it will not necessarily connect with people and as such will be at odds with your engaging and interactive website. In tandem with this, if your online content is thrown together it may throw people off instead of assist them with making a conversion.

As you can see from above, these four mistakes are all easy to fix despite their commonplace appearance online today. Consult with us here at Whelan Web Design to ensure that your website and web presence is mistake free and primed to assist your business.
